David Greco joins the ASQ for its Dunkeld Festival of Music
International Australian born baritone, David Greco has worked on the cutting edge of the early music movement in Europe, performing regularly with The Academy of Ancient Music under Richard Egarr and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman. He has sung throughout the world’s finest concert halls, from the Théâtre des Champs Elysées to Vienna Konzerthaus, and appeared as a soloist in the world’s most exciting festivals such as Festival Aix-en Provence/Gluck’s Alcêste under Ivor Bolton and Glyndebourne Festival Opera/Purcell’s The Fairy Queen under Lawrence Cummings.
David has worked as a bass Lay Clark in Westminster Abbey Choir, and in 2014 was appointed a position with the Sistine Chapel Choir in the Vatican, Rome.
2016 saw David’s debut as a principle artist with Opera Australia in The Love of Three Oranges & The Eighth Wonder, and also the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in performances of Mozart’s Missa Brevis. He performed the role of Wagner in Gounod’s Faust in a co-production with Lyric Opera Chicago and the Macau International Music Festival
In 2017 David appeared as a soloist for the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s tour of Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Matthäus-Passion and Messiah with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, the role of Seneca in Monteverdi’s L’incoranazione di Poppea for Pinchgut Opera. David also made his role debut in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Melbourne last year, under Erin Helyard.
Recently he made his soloist debut with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Bach’s great cantata for solo baritone Ich habe Genug.
2018 includes engagements with Pinchgut Opera/Handel’s Athalia, a program with the Australian Haydn Ensemble featuring the orchestrated songs of Schubert and concerts with Latitude 37.
David has an impressive catalogue of solo recordings spread across a variety of recording labels, including the recently released ‘Poems of Love & War’, featuring arias by New Zealand composer Jack Body on the Naxos Label. 2018 sees the release of David’s solo artist recording with ABC Classics label of Schubert’s Winterreise featuring period fortepiano with Erin Helyard.
