We began Spring with a fabulous residency with students from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing in partnership with the University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium of Music in August.

Straight after the Homeward Tour, a young string quartet from Beijing China arrived at ASQ headquarters at the University of Adelaide.  The Orient Quartet, Lin Ye, Haoya Zhang, Mengzhen Li and Shuhao Qiu, four energetic postgraduate students from China’s most prestigious music school – Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing – joined Dale, Francesca, Stephen and Sharon.

Proving that music really is a universal language, together they shared their love of playing chamber music with plenty of Beethoven and Bartok shared around, along with sightseeing in the Adelaide hills, a barbeque and of course a few glasses of South Australian wine!

The final Saturday afternoon concert Double Happiness, at the Elder Conservatorium of Music’s Elder Hall, showcased performances from both quartets, as well as the two ensembles successfully joining for Mendelssohn’s String Octet – a memorable and inspirational occasion for the University of Adelaide and local community.
