Our National Season 2018 begins the season with Brett Dean’s brilliant first string quartet, Eclipse, paired with the iconic American minimalist, Philip Glass and Mendelssohn’s radiant String Quartet in D major. In our second program, Jörg Widmann’s wildly theatrical Hunt Quartet offers a flight of fantasy amidst two towering works by Beethoven. We eagerly await the world premiere of Transmissions by Australian composer, James Ledger. Written for string quartet and electronic effects, this new work, together with string quartets by Schubert and Shostakovich, promise a thrilling conclusion to our season.
