The Australian String Quartet (ASQ) is excited to be in Brisbane for a week-long residency from 9-14 July 2017. Delivered in partnership with the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU), the residency showcases the Quartet’s commitment to broadening engagement with Queensland audiences. The diverse program of activity includes workshops and master classes with tertiary students at QCGU, where the Quartet will be based for the week. As part of the ASQ’s charter to develop and mentor young musicians, the Quartet will also work with secondary students at St Peters Lutheran College and Ferny Grove State High School during this period.
For over 30 years, the Australian String Quartet has created unforgettable string quartet performances for national and international audiences. The Quartet comprising, Dale Barltrop and Francesca Hiew, violins, Stephen King, viola and Sharon Grigoryan, cello, is dedicated to musical excellence with a distinctly Australian character.
Brisbane has played a large part in the artistic development of the ASQ’s current line-up, with two of the four members, Stephen King and Francesca Hiew, having pursued their tertiary studies in music at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University over the years.
Queensland-born Quartet members, Dale Barltrop and Francesca Hiew maintain especially close ties to the community in Brisbane. Dale Barltrop, an alumnus of Ferny Grove State High School, is looking forward to re-connecting with his former school community during this residency period.
