An opportunity for secondary school string players

In partnership with the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide, selected South Australian Secondary School students will be given the opportunity to join the Australian String Quartet at its home base for a day of workshops and rehearsals, culminating in a public performance in the Elder Conservatorium of Music’s Evening Concert Series. This is a unique opportunity to learn advanced technical and performance skills from the ASQ and enjoy playing a diverse selection of chamber orchestra repertoire in the magnificent Elder Hall.

Please note that participants are required to attend the full day of activities. Lunch and dinner will be provided.

Applicants are invited for violin, viola and cello players at AMEB Grade 6 and above (or equivalent) and double bass players at AMEB Grade 4 and above (or equivalent). As part of the application, students must submit a video of themselves playing a 2 – 3 minute excerpt of a piece of their own choice. The video need not be great quality (a smart-phone or tablet recording will suffice) but both hands and arms must be viewable. Videos can be uploaded to Youtube or Vimeo (and set to ‘private’ or ‘unlisted’), or to Google Drive or DropBox, and made available to the ASQ with a downloadable link. If you have any difficulties recording or uploading a video, please contact the ASQ on email:

Participation is free, applications open in 2019
