A EUPHORIC MORNING OF MUSIC FROM TWO OF THE ROMANTIC ERA’S LEADING VOICES
Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s String Quartet in E-flat Major, composed in 1834, showcases this incredible figure of the Romantic era’s exceptional abilities in writing for string quartet. Her only mature work in the genre—at times ravishingly dramatic and at others stunningly rhapsodic—demonstrates her unique musical voice, mastery of intricate harmonies and emotional expression.
Paired with this is Antonin Dvořák’s melodically rich and festive String Quartet No.14—the composer’s final instrumental chamber work—brimming with inventive interplay and influences from the composer’s experiences abroad and connection to his Bohemian homeland’s folk traditions.
