In this special presentation at the Victorian Artists Society, we perform two incredible works exploring the idyll and the romantic.
Thomas Adès’ Arcadiana is an evocative collection of seven movements that explore an idyll of natural wonder—vast landscapes conjured through sound. Since its conception in 1994, it has gone on to take its place as one of the most ingenious and beautifully crafted string quartets of our time.
Robert Schumann is a composer who never shies away from expressing all that it is to be human. His String Quartet No.3 is no exception, riding waves of raw emotion—at times joyful, at times longing, yet always intimate—sweeping the listener into a drama of heart-wrenching romance and vulnerability.
