PROGRAM UPDATE: Due to illness, this Elder Hall Lunchtime Concert will feature a revised program.
We are delighted that members of the Australian String Quartet, Dale Barltrop and Francesca Hiew (violins) and Michael Dahlenburg (cello) will be joined by guest violist, Aidan Filshie, to perform Beethoven String Quartet No. 2 in G major, Op. 18 No. 2, alongside a selection of pieces by the Danish String Quartet.
While we regret that Benjamin Betelli’s world premiere has been postponed, we’re committed to rescheduling this important work in 2026 and will share details soon.
Guest violist Aidan Filshie

Aidan is a viola player whose passion and joy for music is evident any time he performs. He received his Bachelor of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2021, where he studied with Roger Benedict. Aidan holds a position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. He was part of the Sydney Symphony Fellowship program in 2023.
Chamber music holds a special place in Aidan’s heart as one of the most personal forms of musical expression. As part of the Kalon and Elvina String Quartets, he has participated in chamber music festivals and received tuition in Germany, Austria, Finland, America and Korea. This includes mentoring from members of Artemis Quartet, Schumann Quartet and Quatuor Danel.
Aidan enjoys the process of working with composers in the creation of new music. 2022 saw the release of his debut EP, ‘Summit, which includes three works for viola and piano composed by long-time friend, Patrick Jaffe. Another collaboration was with composer, Daniel Rojas, in the composition of a piece for the AMEB viola syllabus, titled ‘Navegar.’ Aidan has also appeared as a soloist in the premiere of a double concerto by Richard Mills.
Aidan also spends his time training for triathlons and painting landscapes.
