Featuring the Australian String Quartet. Presented by Sydney Dance Company.

In 2020, Sydney Dance Company will explode the everyday and take you into the sublime. Bonachela / Forsythe collects three works from across the spectrum of physicality. Impermanence sees Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela join forces with Bryce Dessner of iconic American rock band The National to create a world premiere work with a specially created score, performed live on stage by the Australian String Quartet. William Forsythe’s N.N.N.N is an Australian premiere from the godfather of contemporary dance: witty, riveting and “astonishingly intense” (New York Times). Completing the bill is the multi award-winning E2 7SD, the virtuosic duet that launched Rafael Bonachela’s choreographic career.

We are excited to be performing this concert with guest cellist Rachael Tobin, while Sharon Grigoryan is on leave.

Cancellation of Sydney and Melbourne seasons

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sydney Dance Company regretfully has to cancel the forthcoming Sydney and Melbourne seasons of Bonachela / Forsythe. We greatly value and appreciate your support during these uncertain times and thank you for your patience and understanding of this situation. Sydney Dance Company is currently investigating the possibility of re-mounting this exciting program later in the year.

If you have a ticket for this season you may wish to consider donating its value as a tax-deductible gift to help support our friends at Sydney Dance Company in their commitment to ensuring a vibrant dance culture across Australia. Alternatively, you can contact Sydney Dance Company to arrange a ticket exchange, credit or refund.

The Melbourne performances of Impermanence are presented in association with Australian String Quartet. Bryce Dessner’s music composition Impermanence is commissioned by the Australian String Quartet and Sydney Dance Company. This commission has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
