WE RETURN TO NIPALUNA (HOBART) WITH A PROGRAM OF MUSIC THAT TRANSCENDS THE ORDINARY AND SETS THE IMAGINATION ALIGHT

Australian composer Jack Symonds’ String Quartet No.2, an “invigorating and brilliant composition” (InReview), is a jaw-dropping tour de force showcasing the string quartet through its wide-ranging breadth of expression and extremes of colour.

Modern American music icon Philip Glass’ String Quartet No.3, Mishima, creates a hypnotic and trancelike soundworld derived from his score for the 1985 film of the same name depicting the final day in the life of famous Japanese writer Yukio Mishima.

Vanishing visions of the idyll—a Utopian world of natural splendour, both aquatic and pastoral—are conjured by an intricate and highly original string soundscape titled Arcadiana by one of Britain’s leading contemporary composers, Thomas Adès.
