SAMPLER PRODUCED BY COLDHANDS
For every episode of Inner Voices with the Australian String Quartet, we commission and feature a new piece of music created with samples from that episode’s subject. This episode’s sampler was created by Coldhands:
Coldhands is a genre-bending artist from Adelaide, South Australia, Kaurna Country, making waves in the dance music scene. His music is a delightful blend of house beats with a touch of jazz, intertwined with contemporary disco elements. Triple J Radio’s Jerry Agbinya called Coldhands. “One of my favourite finds on Triple J Unearthed…”
“The main part I sampled was from the 3rd movement 18:26-18:31. I used that final chord as the basis for the piece. I also reversed other chords from that section which gives a lovely slow attack.
The violin flourish that comes at the end of every second loop (00:34 in my piece) is from the 1st movement 05:25-05:27, this gives the piece some tension and movement at the end of the phrase. I used a volume shaping plugin which is what gives the offbeat feeling, this makes room for the kick drum and gives the samples a life of their own.”
